Need more energy in your day, but giving up coffee. Then matcha green tea is your new best friend. Originally from Japan matcha is a super concentrated, supercharged form of green tea with an impressive list of benefits including giving your energy levels a serious boost.
High in antioxidants, energising whilst being calming and an aid for weight loss, matcha packs a real punch! It does contain very low levels of caffeine naturally but this is balanced out by the rest of the nutrition profile to give you a more sustained energy boost. If you are a coffee drinker, take matcha in the preparation stage before your detox as a caffeine substitute.
Matcha is perfect to help boost your energy levels in the run up to Christmas and then embark on a detox in the new year.
teapigs sell high quality matcha and are a great resource for how you can use matcha in your day (not just as a hot drink!).
One way in, four ways out. Yep take a moment to consider. The mouth is the only way to ingest food, and but the body has four ways to excrete. 1. Defecate, 2. Urinate, 3. Transpiration through skin, the presence of spots, rash and irritations in the skin can be a sign of bad digestion, 4. Breath, which through poor digestion you can have the symptom of bad breath
The fact that there are so many ways for the body to excrete highlights the importance for the removal and wastes from our body. The body is capable of fasting for 40 days (average of course depends on the person!), but without excretion the body is likely to be slowly poisoned in a much shorter period of time.
A lot of stored toxins are liberated during a cleanse, the most important factor is that they leave your body in a timely manner. Make sure all the channels of elimination are in good working order!
A helpful tip is to start dry skin brushing. See the YouTube clip from our nutritionist Belinda Mann on how to do this. If you need a dry skin brush Nutri Centre is a great online resource that offers free UK delivery.
We will be posting more tips on elimination to improve the results of your detox. If you are stuck about which detox to try ask us!
Just as the trees drop their leaves in Autumn, it’s the perfect time for you to cleanse before the transition into winter. This is especially true if you overindulged during summer with holidays and social events. According to Chinese medicine the period 10 days before and 10 days after the Autumn Equinox (September 22nd) is the most ideal time. Even if you can’t manage a full detox during this period, cleansing on the day of the equinox is thought to be very beneficial.
One of the reasons why detoxing in Autumn is so helpful is that is has been shown to reduce or eliminate winter colds. By releasing toxins your immune system will be in much better shape keeping you healthy during the Winter months ahead.

I know some of my investment banking colleagues use to see detox as a fashion trend for girls – then they met me! I explained to them that detoxing is far from a modern fad. It’s an ancient healing technique that was used frequently in Egyptian times, in Ayruveda, by Hippocrates the father of western medicine and was used frequently until the advent of modern medicine.
As digestion takes up to 70% of our bodies energy when the digestive tract is not at work it can heal and repair and the energy liberated from the digestive process goes into healing tissues in the body. It’s not unusual for old injuries to begin to heal again after a few days into the detox process.
Recently the BBC Horizon program Eat, Fast and Live Longer highlighted the benefits of different fasting techniques on our health – focusing on men in their 40-50’s. You have the choice of going down a path of medications and ill health or watching what you eating and living out more healthy productive years in your life.
Of course it’s not just your blood stats that are going to improve either. Inner health radiates out and I know you guys want a flatter stomach, clearer skin, brighter eyes, increased mental clarity just as much as the rest of us! A lot of men get worried about losing muscle weight but remember there are lots of options out there, including healthy eating plans with more protein designed for highly active individuals. And if you have been doing intensive training a short sharp juice cleanse may be all you need for that tricky fat stripping stage that brings increased definition to your abdominals.

Detox is really about hitting the reset button in the body.
The liver is one of the key organs in the body. It has so many tasks if it’s not healthy then it cannot perform all these tasks efficiently, leaving us feeling tired, prone to weight gain, and hormonal balances.
The liver is responsible for controlling blood sugar levels, synthesising cholesterol, blood cleansing, immune function, and detoxification of chemicals such as waste products of metabolism and breakdown of old hormones!
When the liver is overworked – it stores toxins in fat cells which are a ‘safe’ place where the toxins don’t harm the body, resulting in cellulite. Only when the liver is functioning optimally will it have time to work through all these stored toxins. Sometimes people can’t lose weight because the body is too toxic and holding on to the fat cells as a way to protect itself from toxins.
Detoxification is a way to give the body a break and allow the liver and other parts of our digestive system to “catch up”. In this cleaner state the body functions more efficiently and as such many clients feel energised, have better skin, notice an improvement in mood and their weight normalises.
Maintenance eating after a detox will really help extend the benefits and increase your health. Think to eat ‘clean’ food free of toxins as this is going to lessen the load on your liver – fill your diet with lots of organic fruit and vegetables. Hydration is also key, so consider introducing more fluids such as water, herbal tea and coconut water into your day and eliminating dehydrating and toxin forming items such as alcohol, coffee, fried and salty foods.
